The website for NAGC, the major U.S. organization for those concerned with gifted children and their education includes a wealth of resources and information. Anyone interested in the gifted is encouraged to belong to NAGC. The Michigan Alliance for Gifted Education is an affiliate of NAGC.

TAG is a division of The Council on Exceptional Children and is dedicated to promoting the welfare and education of children and youth with gifts, talents, and/or high potential.

This site is a valuable resource for finding excellent information about providing for gifted children.

The Institute for Educational Advancement (IEA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting our nation’s most talented young people in pursuing their full academic and personal potential. IEA provides a variety of programs and services designed specifically for the gifted community, including the Yunasa summer camp for highly gifted youth and the Apprenticeship Program.

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) focuses on all areas of exceptionality, including individuals who are gifted. The TAG division of CEC is specifically dedicated to those who are concerned with the gifted. Go to .

Gifted youth have long been important to American Mensa; one of the first two Special Interest Groups recognized in 1965 focused on their unique issues. American Mensa has more than 1,300 members under the age of 18 with the youngest being 3 years old.

Especially for Educators


Exemplary curriculum frameworks and units of study for classroom use with high ability learners are available from the College of William & Mary. These are grounded in the Integrated Curriculum Model which is designed to respond to gifted learners’ characteristics of precocity, intensity, and complexity through its three dimensions of advanced content, higher level processes and product development, and interdisciplinary concepts, issues, and themes.

National list for families of gifted children. Includes three support communities: TAGFAM for parents whose children are in traditional schools, TAGMAX, and TAGPDQ. Parents should belong to at least one of these groups – TAGMAX for those who homeschool their children, and TAGPDQ for families needing radical educational and social accommodations for their children.

The Master of Education in Instruction and Curriculum with an Emphasis in Educational Differentiation is a program that prepares classroom teachers and specialists to understand and meet the educational needs of students with exceptional abilities across the learning continuum within the mixed-ability classroom. The program focuses on assessment, methodology, materials, curriculum and administration.

The Master of Arts in Gifted Education (MAGE) is a 36-credit hour graduate program designed for candidates (teachers, program coordinators, school counselors, administrators, and parents) who are interested in developing and delivering appropriate educational programs for gifted students. Coursework includes a solid foundation in the nature of giftedness, identification of the gifted, organizational program planning, gifted curriculum, teaching strategies and program evaluation. Additionally, courses are offered to address the social-emotional needs of gifted, creativity, parenting, advocacy concerns and the needs of diverse and under-served student populations.

A center located in the Department of Educational Studies in the Purdue University College of Education, GERI offers graduate programs in gifted education and a licensure program for K-12 educators in Indiana. GERI also provides training to pre-service teachers through hands-on opportunities and training in connection to Super Saturday and the GERI Summer Camps. Under the leadership of Executive Director Professor Marcia Gentry, GERI provides leadership in gifted education, and serves as an advocate for programs and services to high ability students. GERI alumni serve in leadership positions across the United States and abroad and in hundreds of K-12 classrooms.

Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy offers a gifted focus in its Advanced Teaching Program to help educators meet the unique needs of academically talented students. While centering primarily on academically talented students, Advanced Teaching: The Gifted is designed so that certified teachers and administrators can investigate approaches to curriculum planning and pedagogy that will create a challenging learning environment for all students.

The University of Toledo offers Master’s (M.Ed.) and Doctoral (PhD) programs in Special Education that focus on the education of talented and gifted persons. The masters programs can be linked to teacher certification requirements in Michigan. As a part of the program, the university offers students opportunities to work with children/adults who have a wide range of abilities in a variety of school settings.

Ball State University offers a Masters degree in Educational Psychology with an emphasis on Gifted and Talented Education.

This online degree program from the University of Cincinnati is a Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction program with a concentration in Gifted & Talented. It focuses on practicing classroom teachers who are interested in teaching and/or designing programs for gifted and talented students.

Summers-Knoll School in Ann Arbor is a private school where bright children progress at their own pace, creative children engage in limitless exploration and gifted children discover their potential. Summers-Knoll School is designed to provide a rich academic experience for students from kindergarten through fifth grade in small, multi-age classes.

The mission of Emerson School in Ann Arbor is to provide a whole child, multiple method approach to instruction for gifted and for academically talented students. Emerson School encourages creativity, problem solving, and the development of basic skills, while providing a warm, supportive environment that promotes responsibility for oneself and others.

Bates Academy is a K-8 examination school for gifted/talented students that is a part of the Detroit Public Schools. Students must demonstrate exceptional cognitive abilities and must be able to succeed academically beyond their current grade level. They do vertical acceleration as well as horizontal. Their academic program is designed for gifted/talented students. They use the Detroit Board of Education curriculum and then extend using Bloom’s Taxonomy as the basis for further instruction. Bates Academy is among the few public schools in Michigan to receive a distinguished GreatSchools Rating of 10 out of 10.

Gifted & Talented Education (GATE) is a division of the Honors College at Michigan State University. They are dedicated to promoting differentiated educational programs for students in grades 7 – 12. They offer accelerated programming for students in grades 7th-12th. This includes academic year programming, as well as challenging summer credit and non-credit courses in math, science, technology, literature, as well as forensics.

Designed to meet the needs of motivated middle and high school students who are searching for a challenging, fast-paced, and above-grade level curriculum, ATYP serves students from throughout Southwest Michigan. It offers both math and language arts courses on WMU’s Kalamazoo and Battle Creek campuses.

The Kent County ATYP program is a highly accelerated Math and/or Language Arts program, providing Kent County students demonstrating unusual academic promise and passion for math or language arts the opportunity to study in greater depth and complexity, and at a much faster pace. It is based on the Johns Hopkins Talent Search model.

This program offers middle school students in Newaygo County the opportunity to earn three high school credits in two years. ATYP offers two pathways: English Language Arts and Mathematics.

This is a regional mathematics and science program for high-ability students in the Clare/Gladwin, Gratiot/Isabella, Mecosta/Osceola, Midland, and Montcalm intermediate school districts. OTD meets the educational needs of middle and high school students who learn at a pace well ahead of their classmates, and who present special challenges for school districts and parents by providing quality educational opportunities through its enrichment mathematics and science classes.

The Center for Talent Development (CTD) at Northwestern University is one of four universities conducting talent searches within the United States. NU’s Midwest Academic Talent Search (NUMATS) serves an eight state region in the Midwest, including the state of Michigan. NUMATS seeks to provide assessment to third through ninth graders. Students qualify for the talent searches by scoring in the 95th percentile or above on a nationally normed, standardized in-grade achievement test. They can also qualify through state achievement test scores, by being a past talent search participant or by qualifying for a school’s gifted program. A teacher or parent may also nominate a student. Through the assessment that NUMATS provides, students can be matched to appropriate kinds of educational programs including accelerated courses of study and enrichment opportunities. Through NUMATS, parents and educators learn the specific academic areas in which the students demonstrate aptitude and receive recommendations for them to develop these talent areas further.

This program serves academically talented seventh, eighth and ninth graders from greater Ottawa County by offering fast-paced, accelerated instruction in writing and mathematics. PATH enables local school districts to offer academically talented students instruction at an appropriate pace and at an appropriate level within a group of equally talented students. Based upon the academically challenging environment, PATH learners forge important peer relationships as well as, obtain vital core information. /

The mission of this Institute at Purdue University is to further the development of gifts and talents in individuals throughout their life span. The Institute conducts research on the psychology of talent development, trains professionals from all nations of the world to promote the development of individuals who have gifts and talents, and provides services to talented individuals and their families.

Within Webster Elementary School are housed two very special programs! Side by side you find classrooms for Livonia’s Alternative Classrooms for the Academically Talented (ACAT) Program and the Northwest Wayne County program (MoCI) for students who have cognitive impairments.

A summer camp for the 8 to 11 year old exceptionally (EG) or profoundly (PG) gifted child who loves math. Epsilon Camp, directed by Dr. George Thomas, founder of MathPath and Canada/USA MathCamp, is an intellectually rigorous student camp combined with a parent workshop designed to help parents build mathematical and social maturity in the EG/PG child. Epsilon Camp, now in its third season, will be held at beautiful Colorado College from July 28 through August 10, 2013. Let’s Get Real is a competition and an opportunity for teams of students to gain experience working on real business problems. Corporate co-sponsors supply real problems for which teams submit solutions in business format. Each team chooses, from the list of problems, the one it finds most interesting. Problems might include environmental issues, manufacturing, distribution, engineering, software creation, human resources, health and safety, facilities design, public relations, or any other areas deemed important to the corporations involved. Let’s Get Real is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation. Awards are given to the winning entrants.

The Michigan Association for Gifted Children regularly offers a limited number of scholarships for up to $300 to students who wish to attend summer enrichment programs. More information and requirements can be found on the . March 1st is the annual deadline.


The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s scholarships are designed to encourage and support outstanding students from 7th grade through graduate school who have a breadth of interests, work hard, demonstrate a strong will to succeed, and have financial need.

The Davidson Young Scholars Program provides free services designed to nurture and support profoundly gifted young people. Students and their parents receive assistance in the following areas: Free Consulting 官方正版幸运彩票, An Online Community, Annual Get-togethers, Ambassador Program, Free Guidebooks.

The Davidson Fellows program awards $50,000, $25,000 and $10,000 scholarships annually to recognize outstanding students under the age of 18 who have completed significant work in science, mathematics, technology, literature, music, philosophy or outside the box. The Mensa Education & Research Foundation college scholarship program bases its awards totally on essays written by the applicants. Consideration is not given to grades, academic program or financial need. The scholarship process begins Sept. 15 and ends with the scholarship application deadline of Jan. 15.

Discovery Education and 3M are looking for students in grades 5-8 who are enthusiastic about science. The top 10 students will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to New York City and the grand prize winner will receive $50,000 in U.S. Savings Bonds. Check the website for more information.

The Intel Science Talent Search (Intel STS) is a science research competition for high school seniors. Since 1942, first in partnership with Westinghouse and beginning in 1998 with Intel, SSP has provided a national stage for the country’s best and brightest young scientists to present original research to nationally recognized professional scientists.
